The program West African Virus Epidemiology (WAVE) for food security addresses

virus diseases that infect root & crops (Cassava, yams and sweet potato), which 

are the preferred carbohydrate foods for more than 800 million people in Africa, by

by empowering smallholder farmers and appropriate stakeholders to better manage

these diseases of root & tuber crops in West and Central Africa, a crucial step in 

ensuring food security in the region.

 


WHO WE ARE
We are a college of researchers from West and Central Africa working on reducing

the impact of viral diseases on roots and tuber crops with harmonized and optimized 

tools and methods.

 


WHAT WE DO
We are establishing a bridge between various stakeholders to increase the demand and the availability of clean planting materials as a component of an integrated management of root crop viral diseases. Through disease diagnostics and surveillance we povide West and Central African breeders with the accurate information needed for identification and deployment of resistant/tolerant root and tuber crops.


OUR MISSION
WAVE Contribute to food security in Africa through a better management of viral diseases of root and tuber crops, especially cassava.


OUR VISION
Create a significant network of investigators working to improve the lives of African families by increasing the production of major food crops.
